Gartner released a new study on
the growth of the online bill payment market in the U.S. The report says that in
2003 online bill payment is growing in popularity, and it expects the market to
grow by close to 38 percent to 40 million users.
The study says that while most consumers that utilize online banking view and
pay their bills, banks need to do more to create other applications, which will
hook customers into other revenue streams.

Ebanking takes off in Europe
Datamonitor estimates that there will
be nearly 49 million online banking customers in Europe at the end of the year,
up from 23 million in 2000.
Currently, the UK has the highest number of online banking customers in with 9.8
million. Germany, the second leading ebanking nation in Europe, has 8.5 million
online banking customers, while the Nordics have 8.2 million.

A substantial increase in the number of U.S. households paying and viewing bills
online suggests a growing comfort with the medium and less concern over the
security of such transactions.
The number of U.S. households engaged in online banking will nearly double
